I bought this wonderful 1970s albert nipon sheer print dress at the brooklyn flea this past weekend for a song and had great plans to take the hem up and make this my (other) perfect summer dress. excitement got in the way of size consideration and, well, I can't zip it up.
short of breaking a few ribs, what to do?

Black and red is one my all time favourite colour combinations! It's horrible to discover lovelies like this to only later find out they don't fit. I will more often than not, hold on to them in the *hope* they will one day.
Shoot! This seems rather labor intensive, but any chance you could take out the zipper and put in a black smocked panel? You could even use the fabric remnants from the hem, to make it match--although, with the smocking, it won't matter of things aren't exactly aligned.
the blasted zipper-that-won't-zip is up the side, sadly. the smocking idea would've been great had it been in the back...
guess it's a $$$ reconstruction because I can't bare to let this one go:(
Let me look at it next time I come over before you have it altered. I might be able to do a little witchcraft on it.
